The Sugar-Salem cross-country teams had no trouble winning both titles at the 3A meet on Wednesday at Rexburg as the girls beat Shelley 27-45 and the boys defeated the Russets 20-47.
The Lady Diggers easily took the team title as the five scoring Diggers placed in the top nine runners. Serenady Price took second while Megan Galbraith took third, followed by Jade Jackson (fifth), Carlee Anderson (eighth), and Taya Brewer (ninth). Kaiah Anderson and Brooklyn Moser also qualified for state with Marley Harrison as the alternate.
Brennan Anderson won the boys’ race in 16:34.1 followed by Kooper Williams in second, Taylor Hill in third and Parker Galbraith in fourth. Jaren Merrill and Merrill Ward came in 10th and 11th, followed by Tanner Dupree in 15th, as the qualifiers for state next week. Kaysen Klingler will go to state as the alternate.
Brennan Anderson is the favorite to take the 3A state title as the Digger boys are also expected to take the team title for the fourth time in a row. The girls team is also favored to win at state this year.
