School to remain online for the rest of the year. The last day of School will be May 22nd.

April 15, 2020

Sugar Salem Parents and Patrons,

Greetings. I hope that all of your situations are as pleasant as they can be in the midst of these unprecedented experiences. I appreciate your patience with all that we are working through. We are continuing to learn and make adjustments every day.

Given the latest information at our disposal, we have decided to continue our school-at home-curriculum delivery method for the remainder of the school year. With that decision made, we have also decided to conclude school for students on May 22. This will still allow 2 weeks of teacher contract time for struggling students to access teachers for additional help and support. It will also allow district staff time to collect our technology devices and complete the instruction and grading process for all students. School buildings will continue to be open and teachers will continue to be available for the remainder of the scheduled calendar year.

We believe that our senior class students and parents deserve a chance to celebrate the achievement of graduation with their family. We are still hopeful that we will be able to do something that will be meaningful and special for everyone involved. We have formed a committee that includes student leadership, parents, and school administration to explore the options available to us there. We will make those decisions and inform the community as soon as they have been made.

If our state leadership removes the stay at home order, or directs us to do something different, we will quickly meet and reassess our plan of action. In the meantime, we will continue with this plan.

Sincerely,

Chester Bradshaw
Superintendent of Schools
