Although the District VI Solo & Small Ensemble Festival was held virtually this year, students still prepared well, and all earned superior ratings! The students’ Orchestra Director and coach is Jennifer Barrus. She states, “These students were willing to work for over 6 months to learn and refine their pieces for this level of competition. I am very proud of each of them for their dedication and talent which they have developed! It is such a wonderful experience for them to perform at this level; they learn so much both musically and personally by collaborating with their peers.” Students will advance to the State Solo & Small Ensemble Competition in May.
Brendon Wheeler performed a viola solo, “Romance Oubliee”, by Franz Lizst. He was accompanied on the piano by Mark Seare.

The Sugar-Salem String Trio, consisting of members Julianna Barrus- violin, Jenasis Blaser – violin, and Brendon Wheeler – viola, performed the first movement of the “Serenade” Opus 12 by Zoltan Kodaly.
