Additional Information: Mr. Cook, our Technology Director, has been working to complete the erate bid for our district. Erate is a program administered through the federal government which allows districts to apply for a grant. This grant helps fund the purchase of technology hardware and software. We have to apply before we can be considered for the funding. The bid/grant is attached. Mr. Cook sent me the following email: We are seeking board approval for the purchase of network and wireless network equipment and installation. 60% of the funds will be paid for by the erate program. Erate is a program administered by the federal government that districts use to offset communication and internet costs. Recent changes to this program have discontinued payments for telephone communication. However, it now includes payments for networking and wireless equipment. Because of these changes, the state has set aside funds to pay for the majority of wireless networks in all schools. The cost to the district is minimal. In fact we will be receiving more money over the course of the next 5 years for this project. We need to approve the expenses of the ENA bid, which includes any and all options to replace the wireless and wired network. My best estimate will be that we will be spending $115,000. Spencer Cook Technology Director

Additional Information: Below is the email from Mr. Williams, Principal at Kershaw Intermediate. Remember that the funding being requested is already scheduled to be used out of the bond. I've got 2 quotes to replace the Kershaw gym doors. They are from High Country for a total of $27,285 and from Ard's Glass Crafters for a total of $31,000. High Country has done outstanding work for us and I'd recommend that we take their low bid. The two bids are attached. We set aside $20,000 from the August 2017 levy to replace the Kershaw gym doors. Thanks, Neil Williams

Additional Information: Below is the email I received from Mr. Williams, Principal at Kershaw Elementary. He is requesting to be able to move ahead with the scheduled refinishing of his gym floor. Funds for this have already been set aside from the bond. I have two quotes for the Kershaw gym floor to be completely refinished. Quotes have been received from United Services and TVS Floor Coverings and Restoration. The bid from TVS is $24300. That includes both floor refinishing and logo. The bid from United is 18,514.98 for both of those. United's original bid is for 16264.98 and they emailed us the cost of the logo which is 2250.00. This makes a total of 18,514.98. It is our recommendation to go with the low bid from United. We set aside $20,000 from the August 2017 levy to refinish the Kershaw gym floor. Thanks, Neil

Additional Information: Mr. Jenks and Mr. Miller are recommending the purchase of a Turf Topdresser to create smoother fields around the district. The cost is approximately $10,000 of which the HS is willing to pay $3000. Mr. Jenk's email: Mr. Dunn, I want to propose that the district purchase a Turfco Topdresser. The topdresser would be used to improve the ball fields and the play grounds throughout the district. The topdresser would allow us to level the playing fields and to eliminate the unevenness of the playing surfaces. I have submitted a bid sheet for approximately $9,000.00. The high school will contribute $3000.00 and the district would need to pay $6000.00. I believe that this is a valuable tool that will improve the fields and grounds of the district. I have provided a brochure that provides a description of the topdresser. I would encourage the Board of Trustees to approve the purchase in the board meeting on May 2. As a district, we may be able to rent the topdresser to other districts for $300-$400 a day. Thanks for your consideration. Follow the link below for more information: Additional information is also attached. http://www.turfco.com/products/Drop-Style-Topdressers/Mete-R-Matic%C3%82%C2%AE-IV-Topdresser-P5960C7.aspx

Additional Information: To: Mr. Dunn and the Sugar-Salem Board of Trustees Purpose: Adding Coaching Positions To Whom It May Concern, As you know, our student body at Sugar-Salem High School is a very active one with approximately 85% or more involved in some form of extra-curricular program. As such the need for additional coaches and help continues to increase due to the shear number of participants. track is a prime example. they consistently work with 125 student athletes daily either at practice or at track meets. As a result, I am asking that we add the following paid positions to our coaching salary schedule starting in the Fall of 2018. Track...1 additional assistant coach Volleyball...1 additional assistant coach Baseball... 1 additional assistant coach Wrestling - 1 additional assistant coach Girls' Soccer - 1 additional assistant coach Boys' Soccer - 1 additional assistant coach The truth is, each major extra-curricular program could use an additional paid assistant position to help meet the demands of our growing involvement and success. The above four positions are immediate requests by the heads of those programs to me as their Activities Director. Please consider adding these positions to the coaches salary schedule beginning in the Fall of the 2018 school year. Again, thank you for every effort you put forward in behalf of our community and this school district and thank you for your thoughtfulness with this matter. Sincerely, Jay Miller Principal @ Valley View Alt. High School Vice Principal/Activities Director
