Section 504
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. Sugar-Salem School District is committed to providing all students with equal access to educational opportunities and services.
Students who qualify under Section 504 are entitled to accommodations and supports designed to meet their individual needs.
Eligibility
A student may be eligible for Section 504 if they have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as learning, reading, concentrating, or communicating.
Section 504 Plans
If a student is determined eligible, the district will develop a Section 504 Plan outlining appropriate accommodations and supports to ensure equal access to education.

For questions about a student, to request a Section 504 evaluation, or for support under Section 504, please contact your student’s school counselor.
The District Section 504 Coordinator oversees compliance with Section 504, including policies, procedures, and grievance processes. Concerns or complaints regarding Section 504 compliance may be directed to the District Section 504 Coordinator.
