  • Participation is voluntary
  • Either party may stop the process at any time before a resolution is reached

Grievance Process Overview

The District follows a fair and impartial process consistent with guidance from the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights.

Step 1: Notice of Allegations

Both parties receive written notice of the allegations and an explanation of the process.

Step 2: Investigation

A trained investigator:

  • Gathers evidence
  • Interviews parties and witnesses
  • Prepares an investigative report

Both parties have equal opportunity to present evidence.

Step 3: Determination

A Decision Maker:

  • Reviews all evidence
  • Issues a written decision to both parties at the same time

Step 4: Appeal

Both parties have the right to appeal the decision based on:

  • Procedural errors
  • New evidence
  • Conflict of interest or bias

Timeframes

The District resolves complaints within reasonably prompt timeframes.

In some cases, timelines may be adjusted for good cause, including:

  • Availability of parties or witnesses
  • Law enforcement involvement
  • Need for language assistance or accommodations

If delays occur, both parties will be notified.
